Part (a) · 2 marks
Find the difference between Barcelona's and Monaco's average attendances, giving the result in standard form.
- 1Barcelona: 7.7 × 10⁴ = 77 000
- 2Monaco: 9.5 × 10³ = 9500
- 377 000 − 9500 = 67 500 = 6.75 × 10⁴
Answer6.75 × 10⁴
Part (b) · 2 marks
Decide whether Chelsea's attendance is about 50 times Oxford United's, justifying your decision.
- 1Oxford United: 8.3 × 10³ = 8300
- 250 × 8300 = 415 000
- 3Chelsea: 4.2 × 10⁴ = 42 000, far less than 415 000
- 4So Antonio is not correct: No
AnswerNo, because 8.3 × 10³ × 50 = 415 000, which is far more than Chelsea's 4.2 × 10⁴ = 42 000
Part (c) · 2 marks
Calculate the overall percentage change in a ticket price after it rises 15% then falls 8%.
- 115% increase: multiplier 1.15
- 28% decrease: multiplier 0.92
- 31.15 × 0.92 = 1.058, which is 105.8%
- 4Overall change = 105.8 − 100 = 5.8% increase: 5.8
Answer5.8
