The question, in short
From five shaded six-sided shapes on a square grid, identify the congruent pair, draw a similar non-congruent shape to B, and name a six-sided shape.
Summarised in our own words. Use the official paper for the exact wording and the diagram.
Part (a) · 1 mark
Write the letters of the two shapes that are congruent.
- 1Identify shapes A and D as having the same size and shape by comparing their side lengths and angles.
- 2Confirm that both shapes occupy the same number of grid squares and match exactly when rotated or reflected.
- 3Conclude that A and D are congruent.
AnswerA and D
Part (b) · 2 marks
On the grid, draw a shape similar to shape B but not congruent to it.
- 1Note that shape B is a 6-sided figure on the grid.
- 2To create a similar shape, maintain the same angles and proportional side lengths but change the size.
- 3Enlarge shape B by a scale factor (e.g., 2) from a point, ensuring all corresponding sides are in proportion.
- 4Draw the new shape with 6 sides, twice as large in each dimension, on the square grid.
- 5Verify that the new shape is similar but not congruent to B.
AnswerCorrectly enlarged shape
Part (c) · 1 mark
Give the mathematical name for a shape with 6 sides.
- 1Recall that a polygon with six sides is called a hexagon.
- 2State the name based on the given information that all shapes have 6 sides.
Answerhexagon
