The question, in short
On a grid, transform shape A by reflection and shape B by enlargement, drawing each image in the required position.
Summarised in our own words. Use the official paper for the exact wording and the diagram.
Part (a) · 2 marks
Reflect shape A, the trapezium with vertices (5, 2), (8, 2), (7, 3), (6, 3), in the line y = x and draw the image.
- 1Reflecting in y = x swaps the coordinates: (x, y) → (y, x)
- 2(5, 2) → (2, 5), (8, 2) → (2, 8)
- 3(7, 3) → (3, 7), (6, 3) → (3, 6)
- 4Join (2, 5), (2, 8), (3, 7), (3, 6)
AnswerTrapezium with vertices at (2, 5), (2, 8), (3, 7) and (3, 6)
Part (b) · 2 marks
Enlarge shape B, the trapezium with vertices (3, 2), (5, 2), (4, 4), (3, 4), by scale factor 2 about centre (1, 1) and draw the image.
- 1From centre (1, 1), double the distance to each vertex
- 2(3, 2): 2 right 1 up → 4 right 2 up → (5, 3)
- 3(5, 2): 4 right 1 up → 8 right 2 up → (9, 3)
- 4(4, 4) → (7, 7) and (3, 4) → (5, 7)
- 5Join (5, 3), (9, 3), (7, 7), (5, 7)
AnswerTrapezium with vertices at (5, 3), (9, 3), (7, 7) and (5, 7)
