The question, in short
On grids, transform shape A by reflecting it in the line y = x, and enlarge shape B by scale factor 2 about centre (1, 1).
Summarised in our own words. Use the official paper for the exact wording and the diagram.
Part (a) · 2 marks
Reflect shape A, a trapezium with vertices (5, 2), (6, 3), (7, 3), (8, 2), in the line y = x on the grid.
- 1Reflecting in y = x swaps the coordinates: (x, y) → (y, x)
- 2(5, 2) → (2, 5)
- 3(6, 3) → (3, 6)
- 4(7, 3) → (3, 7)
- 5(8, 2) → (2, 8)
- 6Join the four image points
AnswerA trapezium with vertices at (2, 5), (2, 8), (3, 7) and (3, 6)
Part (b) · 2 marks
Enlarge shape B, a trapezium with vertices (3, 2), (3, 4), (4, 4), (5, 2), by scale factor 2 with centre (1, 1).
- 1From (1, 1), double the distance to each vertex
- 2(3, 2): 2 right, 1 up → 4 right, 2 up → (5, 3)
- 3(3, 4): 2 right, 3 up → (5, 7)
- 4(4, 4): 3 right, 3 up → (7, 7)
- 5(5, 2): 4 right, 1 up → (9, 3)
- 6Join the four image points
AnswerA trapezium with vertices at (5, 3), (5, 7), (7, 7) and (9, 3)
