The question, in short
Expand a product, factorise an expression fully, and write a formula for total cheese slices T from h small packs and j large packs.
Summarised in our own words. Use the official paper for the exact wording and any diagrams.
Part (a) · 1 mark
Expand x(3 − x).
- 1x(3 − x) = 3x − x²
Answer3x − x²
Part (b) · 2 marks
Factorise 12a − 18b fully.
- 112a − 18b
- 2find the highest common factor, 6
- 36 × 2a = 12a, 6 × 3b = 18b
- 412a − 18b = 6(2a − 3b)
Answer6(2a − 3b)
Part (c) · 3 marks
Using 8 slices per small pack and 20 per large pack, write T in terms of h and j.
- 1each small pack has 8 slices, so h packs give 8h slices
- 2each large pack has 20 slices, so j packs give 20j slices
- 3total slices T = 8h + 20j
AnswerT = 8h + 20j
