The question, in short

Rearrange p = (8k² + 5)/(7 − 3k²) to make k the subject, showing the algebraic steps.

Summarised in our own words. Use the official paper for the exact wording and any diagrams.

Solution · 4 marks

  1. 1p(7 − 3k²) = 8k² + 5
  2. 27p − 3k²p = 8k² + 5
  3. 37p − 5 = 8k² + 3k²p
  4. 47p − 5 = k²(8 + 3p)
  5. 5k² = (7p − 5)/(8 + 3p)
  6. 6k = ±√((7p − 5)/(8 + 3p))

Answerk = ±√((7p − 5)/(8 + 3p))
