WMA11/01 Jan 2022, Question 1: Integration: Undoing Differentiation
Pearson Edexcel International AS Level Mathematics · Pure Mathematics 1 (WMA11) · Calculator · 4 marks
The question, in short
Integrate the expression 8x³/5 − 2/(3x⁴) − 1 with respect to x, presenting every resulting term in its simplest form.
Summarised in our own words. Use the official paper for the exact wording and any diagrams.
Solution · 4 marks
- 1Write the integrand as (8/5)x³ − (2/3)x⁻⁴ − 1
- 2Raise each power by 1 and divide by the new power: (8/5) × x⁴/4 − (2/3) × x⁻³/(−3) − x
- 3= (2/5)x⁴ + (2/9)x⁻³ − x + c
Answer(2/5)x⁴ + (2/9)x⁻³ − x + c
