WMA11/01 Jan 2023, Question 3: Integration: Undoing Differentiation
Pearson Edexcel International AS Level Mathematics · Pure Mathematics 1 (WMA11) · Calculator · 5 marks
The question, in short
Integrate the expression (4x⁵ + 3) divided by 2x² with respect to x, presenting the result in its simplest form.
Summarised in our own words. Use the official paper for the exact wording and any diagrams.
Solution · 5 marks
- 1(4x⁵ + 3)/(2x²) = 2x³ + (3/2)x^(−2)
- 2∫ 2x³ dx = ½x⁴
- 3∫ (3/2)x^(−2) dx = (3/2) × x^(−1)/(−1) = −(3/2)x^(−1)
- 4= ½x⁴ − 3/(2x) + c
Answer½x⁴ − 3/(2x) + c
