اقرأ هذا الحل مشروحاً بالعربي ←

The question, in short

Work out a scalar multiple of the column vector (−3, 7) and the sum of the column vectors (8, −6) and (−5, 2).

Summarised in our own words. Use the official paper for the exact wording and any diagrams.

Part (a) · 1 mark

Multiply the column vector (−3, 7) by 2 and give the resulting column vector.

  1. 12 × (−3, 7) = (2 × −3, 2 × 7)
  2. 2= column vector (−6, 14)

Answercolumn vector (−6, 14)

Part (b) · 1 mark

Add the column vectors (8, −6) and (−5, 2) and give the resulting column vector.

  1. 1(8 + −5, −6 + 2)
  2. 2= column vector (3, −4)

Answercolumn vector (3, −4)
