0580/23 May/Jun 2022, Question 16: Speed-Time Graphs and Acceleration

Cambridge IGCSE Mathematics 0580 · Paper 23 (Extended) · Calculator · 4 marks

اقرأ هذا الحل مشروحاً بالعربي ←

The question, in short

Complete five statements about a speed–time graph with sections A, B, C and D, identifying incorrect, constant-speed and decelerating sections, the acceleration in A, and distance in the first 30 seconds.

Summarised in our own words. Use the official paper for the exact wording and the diagram.

Solution · 4 marks

  1. 1D goes backwards in time (from t = 100 to t = 90), so D cannot be correct
  2. 2B is horizontal, so constant speed; C slopes down, so deceleration
  3. 3Acceleration of A = 10 ÷ 30 = 1/3 m/s²
  4. 4Distance in first 30 s = area of triangle = 1/2 × 30 × 10 = 150 m

AnswerSection D cannot be correct; Section B shows constant speed; Section C shows deceleration; acceleration 1/3 or 0.333…; distance 150
