The question, in short

Draw the line y = 2x + 3 on a grid for x from −2 to 3, then shade and label the region R meeting three given inequalities.

Summarised in our own words. Use the official paper for the exact wording and the diagram.

Part (a) · 3 marks

Plot the straight line y = 2x + 3 on the grid for x values between −2 and 3.

  1. 1Use y = 2x + 3 to make a table for x = −2 to 3
  2. 2x = −2, −1, 0, 1, 2, 3 gives y = −1, 1, 3, 5, 7, 9
  3. 3Plot these six points on the grid
  4. 4Join them with a straight line through (−2, −1), (−1, 1), (0, 3), (1, 5), (2, 7) and (3, 9)

Answera straight line passing through the points (−2, −1), (−1, 1), (0, 3), (1, 5), (2, 7), and (3, 9)

Part (b) · 2 marks

Shade the region satisfying x ≤ 2, y ≥ 1 and y ≤ 2x + 3, and label it R.

  1. 1x ≤ 2 is left of x = 2, and y ≥ 1 is above y = 1
  2. 2y ≤ 2x + 3 is on or below the line drawn in part (a)
  3. 3These three lines meet at (−1, 1), (2, 1) and (2, 7)
  4. 4Shade the triangle with vertices (−1, 1), (2, 1) and (2, 7) and label it R

Answerthe triangle bounded by x = 2, y = 1 and y = 2x + 3, with vertices (−1, 1), (2, 1) and (2, 7)
