The question, in short
Three short algebra tasks: rearrange M = ac − bd for a, solve 5x − 4 < 39, and fully factorise 18e²f³ − 12e³f.
Summarised in our own words. Use the official paper for the exact wording and any diagrams.
Part (a) · 2 marks
Rearrange the formula M = ac − bd so that a is the subject.
- 1M = ac − bd
- 2ac = M + bd
- 3a = (M + bd)/c
Answer(M + bd)/c
Part (b) · 2 marks
Solve the inequality 5x − 4 < 39 for x.
- 15x − 4 < 39
- 25x < 39 + 4
- 35x < 43
- 4x < 43/5
- 5x < 8.6
Answerx < 8.6
Part (c) · 2 marks
Factorise 18e²f³ − 12e³f completely.
- 1HCF of 18 and 12 is 6; lowest powers are e² and f.
- 2So the common factor is 6e²f.
- 318e²f³ ÷ 6e²f = 3f² and 12e³f ÷ 6e²f = 2e
- 4Answer: 6e²f(3f² − 2e)
Answer6e²f(3f² − 2e)
