The question, in short
Use a six-section spinner (3 red, 2 blue, 1 yellow) to describe yellow's likelihood, mark green's probability on a scale, and fill 3 blank cards among 4, 5, 4, 1, 7 so picking an odd number has probability 1/2.
Summarised in our own words. Use the official paper for the exact wording and the diagram.
Part (a) · 1 mark
Choose one word from the given likelihood box that describes the chance the spinner stops on yellow.
- 1There is 1 yellow section out of 6 total sections.
- 2This is a small chance, so the word that describes the likelihood is unlikely.
Answerunlikely
Part (b) · 1 mark
Place a cross on the probability scale at the position representing the chance of landing on green.
- 1There are no green sections on the spinner.
- 2The probability of landing on green is 0.
- 3Mark a cross at 0 on the probability scale.
Answer× at 0
Part (c) · 1 mark
Write numbers on the three blank cards so that the probability of randomly selecting an odd number is 1/2.
- 1There are 5 numbered cards: 4, 5, 4, 1, 7. Among these, the odd numbers are 5, 1, 7 (3 odds), and the evens are 4, 4 (2 evens).
- 2We add 3 blank cards. We want the total probability of picking an odd number to be 1/2.
- 3So exactly half of the 8 cards must have odd numbers.
- 4Total odd-numbered cards needed: 4.
- 5Currently there are 3 odd-numbered cards, so we need to make 1 of the blank cards odd.
- 6The other 2 blank cards must be even.
- 7Write 1 odd number and 2 even numbers on the blank cards.
Answer1 odd number and 2 even numbers
