WMA11/01 Jan 2019, Question 1: Integration: Undoing Differentiation
Pearson Edexcel International AS Level Mathematics · Pure Mathematics 1 (WMA11) · Calculator · 4 marks
The question, in short
Integrate the expression (2/3)x³ − 1/(2x³) + 5 with respect to x and simplify the result.
Summarised in our own words. Use the official paper for the exact wording and any diagrams.
Solution · 4 marks
- 1Write the middle term as a power: −1/(2x³) = −½x⁻³
- 2Integrate each term: (2/3)·x⁴/4 − ½·x⁻²/(−2) + 5x
- 3Simplify: (1/6)x⁴ + (1/4)x⁻² + 5x + c
Answer(1/6)x⁴ + (1/4)x⁻² + 5x + c
