The question, in short
Bag holds 30 counters: 13 purple, 11 white, remainder red. Find probabilities for purple and red, then after adding 10 counters with white probability 2/5, find how many added are white.

Part (a) · 1 mark
State the probability that a randomly taken counter is purple.
- 113 out of 30 counters are purple
- 2probability = 13/30
Answer13/30
Part (b) · 1 mark
Calculate the probability that a randomly taken counter is red.
- 1total counters = 30
- 2purple + white = 13 + 11 = 24
- 3red counters = 30 − 24 = 6
- 4probability = 6/30
Answer6/30
Part (c) · 2 marks
Given 10 counters added and new white probability 2/5, find how many added counters are white.
- 1after adding 10 counters, total = 30 + 10 = 40
- 2probability of white is now 2/5
- 3number of white counters now = (2/5) × 40 = 16
- 4originally 11 white counters
- 5new white counters added = 16 − 11 = 5
